Standards

BGI is the vice chairman institute of the International Standardization Organization/Biotechnology Committee (ISO/TC 276), and one of the domestic technical corresponding organizations. BGI also initiated the founding of five industry alliances and associations. BGI acts as Chairman, Vice Chairman or Expert Committee Member in 41 international and domestic standardization organizations such as ISBER (International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories), GGBN (Global Genome Biodiversity Network), and GIA (Genomics in Aquaculture?? ). By September 2018, BGI has submitted more than 100 standard proposals, and co-developed seven high-throughput gene sequencing national standardswith National Food and Drug Control Authority and National Metrology Institute of China. On June 14, 2017, BGI’s Guangdong Province Gene Industry Integrated Standardization Pilot Project successfully passed the site inspection and received the approval . BGI becomes the first organization in Guangdong Province to complete the pilot construction and receive the approval.

BGI continues to rely on advanced genetic storage, reading and writing capabilities, new cross-arena biological research and varied industrial applicationss. Based on “big platforms”, “big data”, “big science”, “big industry”, and health, BGI seeks to establish extensive collaborations with domestic and international standardization organizations, NGO’s, and leading research institutions and enterprises in the industry, contributing to building the most influential standards and databases in the life sciences, pioneer in China's life science development and emerging industries, and promote the development of human health services and technology applications.
